A Featured Image is usually the image that's displayed on your News Article as a thumbnail. Generally, in most websites, we tend to set it up so that the News article thumbnail will usually use the first image added to that news post. In other words, if you simply add a main image to your news post, this will usually be the one used as the thumbnail. In some circumstances, you may wish to over-ride the default 1st image, by adding a specific featured image in your post.

- Simply click on "Set Featured Image" inside the news "post" that you are editing. The featured image option is located at the bottom of the right hand column in the editing screen.
- A WordPress Media Uploader dialogue box will open.
- You can then either upload an image from your computer or use an existing image from your media library.
- You will also have the option to add alt text (for search engines) and a title, amongst other options.
- Once you've select the image, simply click on Set Featured Image button.
- Finally, click on "Update Post" (top right of editing screen) – this will prompt you with a "Post updated. Preview post" message.
- Click on preview so that you can see what it looks like on your site. You can always have a play around and experiment a little.
